I am honored to announce that I have been invited to serve as a session speaker at the fourth Indonesian-American Kavli Frontiers of Science symposium to be held in Medan, Indonesia this June! I will be speaking in the session on Ethnobotany and Tropical Medicine. The symposium is sponsored by the Indonesian Academy of Sciences, the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
Here is a description of the Kavli Frontiers of Science symposium series provided by the organizers: “This symposium series is the premiere activity within the U.S. Academy for distinguished young scientists. Unlike meetings that cover a single, narrow slice of science, these symposia are designed to provide an overview of advances and opportunities in a wide-ranging set of disciplines and to provide an opportunity for the future leaders of science to build a network with their colleagues. Attendees are selected by a committee of Academy members from among young researchers who have already made recognized contributions to science, including recipients of major fellowships and awards. Since its inception in 1989, more than one hundred of its “alumni” have been elected to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, and ten have received Nobel Prizes.”
