The following is a list of core equipment dedicated for use in the Quave Research Group in phytochemistry, microbiology and cell culture laboratory spaces.

  • Agilent 1260 Infinity analytical/semi-preparative HPLC system with autosampler, diode array detector (DAD), fluorescence detector, and fraction collector is used to: generate phytochemical profiles for extracts; batch-to-batch standardization protocols; isolate individual compounds of interest; to conduct analytical and semi-preparative scale chromatography;
  • Agilent 1260 Infinity Preparative HPLC system with a custom-built large scale open bed fraction collector is used to isolate individual compounds or proteins of interest
  • Teledyne ISCO Combiflash Rf+ chromatography system with DAD and ELSD is used for large scale (up to 20 grams) rough separation of complex crude extracts in preparation for more refined chromatography
  • JASCO Supercritical Fluid Extractor (CO2 extraction setup with co-solvent and six cyclone fraction collection vessels)
  • Biotek Cytation 3 Cell Imaging Multimode Reader reads microplate optical density, luminescence, fluorescence (monochromator) and can be used for microscopy imaging
  • Brandtech LHS liquid handling system for medium to high throughput assay setup (96-384 well plates)
  • 2 x -80 °C and 9 x -20 °C Floor Freezers are used in sample storage (extracts and isolated compounds) and storage of bacterial isolates
  • 2 x -20 °C Tabletop Freezers for sample storage
  • 2 x 4 °C floor refrigerator (model/ cu ft)
  • 2 x Buchi RII Rotary evaporators with V-700 vacuum pump and F-114 circulating chiller system for solvent removal
  • 2 x Buchi RII evaporator with V-700 vacuum pump and 5L heating bath and continuous feed line for large volume solvent removal
  • 1 x refrigerated floor centrifuge for cell culture (Jouan GR412)
  • 2 x tabletop centrifuges (Sorvall RT6000B) – one for bacterial and one for cell culture work
  • 1 x spectrophotometer (BioMate 3S)
  • 1 x refrigerated microcentrifuge (Eppendorf AG5430)
  • 2 x Labconco FreeZone 2.5 Plus Lyophilizer and vacubrand RC6 chemistry hybrid pump for removal of solvents in sample preparation
  • 1 x Olympus CK2 microscope with 4X, 10X and 20X objective lens
  • 1 x inverted microscope (Olympus CK2)
  • 2 x Incubators with shaker
  • 2 x CO2 incubator for cell culture
  • Ultrapure water filtration system
  • 4 x analytical balances
  • 2 x shaker/rotators
  • 4 x hotplates
  • 4 x vortexers
  • 2 x water baths
  • 3 x chemical fume hoods
  • 3 x biosafety cabinets (housed in separate workrooms – two dedicated to microbiological studies; the other for human cell culture)
