New paper out on anti-biofilm activity in Steptococcus pneumoniae!

I am so excited to announce that our newest paper on our biofilm inhibitor formulation, 220D-F2 from the Elmleaf blackberry, has been published in PLoS ONE! Here, we report exciting activity against pneumococcal biofilms! Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus) is an important human pathogen associated with high morbidity and mortality, causing serious diseases such as pneumonia, otitis media, bacteremia and meningitis. The global burden of pneumococcal infection is especially high in children, causing 15 million cases of serious diseases and 1.6 million deaths each year. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of an agent with antibacterial activity for S. pneumoniae planktonic cells, and pneumococcal biofilms, obtained from a botanical product.
